Report: Job Vacancies 2022

KEY INSIGHTS

The proportion of PMET vacancies continued to trend up over the past decade, aligned with the ongoing improvement in the education profile of the workforce. Jobs with a technology focus such as software, web and multimedia developers remained in demand, alongside finance and healthcare professionals.

Continuing the downtrend observed over the decade, the proportion of job vacancies unfilled for at least six months has declined in 2024. The proportion of newly created positions among all job vacancies saw a slight decline in 2024, but remained above the pre-pandemic levels of 2018/2019. The majority of these newly created positions were driven by business expansion, both within existing operations and through the addition of new functions.

More employers are looking beyond academic qualifications when filling job vacancies, prioritising other factors such as applicants’ relevant experience and skillsets. In the past two years (2023 – 2024), job matching efficiency has improved, indicated by a leftward shift of the Beveridge curve, with lower unemployment and job vacancy rates.
