Report: Report On Wage Practices, 2014

This report examines employees’ wage changes in 2014 and the extent to which employers have adopted the National Wages Council’s recommendations. Topics covered include total and basic wage changes, bonuses and wage flexibility.

Key findings: The tight labour market continued to raise workers’ wages in 2014, although the growth rate was lower than 2013 amid moderate economic growth. However, after factoring in lower inflation rates, real total wages grew more quickly. Over the longer term, labour productivity growth lagged real wage increases. Wages for low-wage employees trended up as employers continued to respond to NWC recommendations to give wage increases to the employees earning up to $1,000. A vast majority of employees in the private sector were under some form of flexible wage system.
