FAQs on Survey on Employees’ Working Conditions, 2016

1. Why do we need the Survey on Employees’ Working Conditions, 2016?

The survey seeks to obtain information on workplace conditions from the employees’ perspective. The statistical information compiled from the survey will form vital inputs to the government in the formulation of policies and programmes to improve the state of quality of the workplace.

2. How does MRSD select the sample used in the survey?

The individuals to be surveyed are randomly selected by computer based on the effective sample of the Comprehensive Household Survey 2015. The sample is selected such that it is representative of the resident labour force.

3. If the individuals identified for the survey cannot be contacted, why can't MOM select other individuals for the survey?

The individuals are selected in such a way that they are representative of the resident labour force. If we interview individuals who are not selected, the sample will not be representative and thus the survey results will not be reliable.

4. What information is collected from this survey?

6. Is participation in the survey compulsory?

The survey seeks to obtain information on employees’ working conditions. Your participation in the survey is important for us to obtain reliable national statistics which are used to facilitate the formulation of workplace-related policies and programmes. It is also for this reason that the survey is conducted under the Statistics Act (Chapter 317). Under the Act, it is compulsory for the selected individuals to provide us the necessary information.
