Chart: Entries and Exits 2019

In 2019, local employment continued to grow (28,300), higher than in 2018 (27,400). The net growth in local employment came from 198,700 persons entering and 173,700 persons exiting employment. Compared to a year ago, the number of local entries was similar but local exits fell as fewer left the workforce for further studies/training, family care or to take a break.

Foreign employment growth in 2019 (28,700, excluding FDW) was driven more significantly by Construction. The net growth in foreign employment came from 250,000 entries and 221,300 exits. Compared to the previous year, the number of foreign exits fell over the year in 2019 as fewer Work Permit Holders left Construction and Marine Shipyard. Furthermore, the number of foreign entries edged up, with the bulk coming from Work Permit Holders entering Construction.

For more information on the concepts and definition of entries and exits data, please refer to the Technical Note on Entries and Exits in Local Employment.
