Monthly Unemployment Situation – July 2021

For release: 6 September 2021

In July 2021, the unemployment rates increased (overall: from 2.7% to 2.8%; resident: from 3.5% to 3.7%; citizen: from 3.7% to 3.9%), following a consistent downtrend for the past eight months. Nonetheless, the rates in July remained lower than in May 2021. 87,300 residents[1] were unemployed in July 2021, including 77,200 citizens. [2],[3]

Other labour market indicators suggest this increase could be due to the temporary easing of manpower demand in certain sectors during the Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) from 16 May to 13 June 2021.

More details will be released in Labour Market Report Second Quarter 2021 on 15 September 2021.
