From the 17th to 18th of August 2026, the Manpower Research and Statistics Department (MRSD) was invited to attend the 8th International Conference on Statistics: Theory and Applications (ICSTA 2026) held in London, United Kingdom.

The ICSTA 2026 gathered international scholars in statistical theory and application to share developments in their respective fields, providing a high-level platform for the exchange of ideas and information.

Advancing Critical Perspectives through Research: Statistical Specialists Soon Da Ren and David Chin

Statistical specialists Soon Da Ren and David Chin represented MRSD with two research papers at this conference.

“Multi-Period Difference-in-Differences Analysis of Female Labour Force Participation in Singapore" by Soon Da Ren explored the impact of Singapore's flexible work arrangement (FWA) policy reforms on the female labour participation rate. David Chin's “Estimating Unequal Valuation at Work: A Triple-Difference Approach" highlighted an alternative framework (i.e. the difference-in-difference-in-differences (DDD) framework) to assess unequal valuation in the Singaporean workforce, allowing the agility of analyses to be strengthened.

Both research papers capture MRSD’s commitment to reinforce its statistical methodologies and research capabilities, providing Singaporeans with timely insight into the labour market.

Engaging with the International Research Community

The presentation stage was also graced by keynote speaker Dr. Marc Ratkovic, an award-winning expert and professor in political science and social data science, who shared about the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for statistical inference. The conference also featured research on methodologies for analysing income inequality.

Participating at the 8th ICSTA 2026 has reinvigorated MRSD’s eagerness to learn more about and integrate the latest developments in statistical methods to supply the Singaporean labour force with reliable and relevant insights, aiding stronger evidence-based decision making.
