Collaborative Intelligence and the Future of Work (CIVIC-AI) Workshop
The Manpower Research and Statistics Department (MRSD) participated in the Collaborative Intelligence and the Future of Work (CIVIC-AI) Workshop last week, held at the National University of Singapore (NUS).
Jointly organised by NUS and Stanford University, the workshop brought together researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders to explore how artificial intelligence is reshaping work, society, and the future of human-AI collaboration.
Based on the theme of ‘Future of Work with AI Agents in Singapore’, Statistical Specialists Jeryl Ong and Soon Da Ren shared national labour market statistics collected by MRSD, specifically on AI adoption amongst firms.
Key insights highlighted were that while 28.5% of firms have adopted AI in some capacity, only 3.8% have fully integrated AI into their core business processes, indicating that most firms remain in the early phases of experimentation or implementation. Importantly, the statistics suggest that AI is augmenting more than replacing workers. Most firms that have adopted AI reported improvements in productivity alongside job designs and newly created AI-related roles as opposed to reducing headcount.

Beyond sharing these findings, MRSD was joined by leading researchers and practitioners to discuss the transformation of workspaces with AI agents, and the implications for organisations, workers, and public policy. The session examined key questions surrounding AI adoption, including how organisations can redesign work to leverage AI effectively, balance automation with human augmentation, and foster responsible governance of AI technologies. These discussions complemented broader themes explored throughout the workshop, such as the future of work, cross-cultural perspectives on AI adoption, and the enduring value of human capabilities in an increasingly AI-enabled economy.
With the collaboration and perspectives from academia and industry experts, MRSD continues to advance evidence-based understanding of how emerging technologies such as AI are reshaping Singapore's labour market. Through engagements with researchers, policymakers, and international experts, the department continues to contribute insights that support informed policymaking and strengthen Singapore's readiness for the evolving labour market landscape.
