Introduction
KEY INSIGHTS
1. The working-age population forms the most comprehensive group of persons in the labour market.
2. In Singapore, it comprises all persons aged 15 years old and over and can be divided into two categories:
1) Persons in the labour force (economically active)
2) Persons outside the labour force (economically inactive)
The labour force measures the manpower currently available in the economy. It comprises people who are working or seeking work (i.e. the employed and the unemployed). The labour force participation rate measures the proportion of working-age population that engages actively in the labour market, either by working or looking for work.
